At the closest point, Vieques is about 8 miles off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. To get to Vieques, you can take a 20-minute flight from one of two airports in San Juan (San Juan International or Isla Grande), or you can take the ferry from Fajardo. If you decide to take the ferry allow lots of extra time - Fajardo is about a 60-90 minute drive from San Juan and ferry tickets are sold on a first-come-first-served basis with local residents taking priority over tourists. Depending which boat you end up on the ferry ride can take anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes. Cheaper flights are available out of the Ceiba airport located just south of Fajardo.
Casa Dos Chivos is centrally located on Vieques
Our Location/Island Info
Casa Dos Chivos is situated on a ridge (indicated by the red marker on the map) that runs along the middle of the Vieques. The island is only 4 miles from north to south so our house is a short drive to just about every beach and restaurant on the island. The Bioluminescent Bay is on the south side of the island. The best beaches on the island (Navio, Playa Caracas, Playa La Chiva) are located along the south shore to the east of the Bio-Bay. Zoom in and drag the map up to see the south side where the village of Esperanza is with it's many fine restaurants such as Tradewinds, Duffy's, Bili, and El Quenepo. The wide crescent-shaped beach just to the east of Esperanza is Sun Bay beach.
Route 200 runs along the north shore of Vieques past the airport and on into Isabel II. Along this road are the only 3 gas stations on the island and the largest grocery store (Morales). The drive into Isabel takes you past several colmados, the post office, and Blackbeard Sports where you can rent snorkel and scuba gear.
